Contributing Factors to Mental Distress

It might seem that the most obvious pedagogical approach is to keep an eye out for students who are expressing distress through behavior that demonstrates psychological turmoil. But acting as a supportive and effective pedagogue in these scenarios is not so simple. Many students who struggle with psychological challenges will not explicitly express the challenges they are facing. Therefore it is imperative to get to know our students and understand what underlying stressors may exist so that we may thoughtfully frame our feedback and adjust our expectations. In this section we will learn about several factors that may contribute to mental distress.
